A new constellation of stars set to appear in Barnsley this summer
Underneath the Stars Festival, now in its fourth year, announces its biggest and best headliners yet. Set in the grounds of Cannon Hall Open Farm in the South Yorkshire village of Cawthorne, this petite festival will be the focus for another celebration music and arts with its' own unique care-free atmosphere. The weekend event will take place 21 - 23rd July, drawing in leading performers from a prodigious mix of musical genres as well as a magical selection of street theatre and dance spectacles.
Newton Faulkner, the singer, songwriter and guitar virtuoso who has sold over 1.5 million albums and had four top ten albums, two reaching No 1; Show of Hands with Miranda Sykes, who are celebrating 25 years in the business and are described as "one of the great English bands" by Peter Gabriel; Lucy Rose who left her home in Warwickshire at the start of the decade cutting her own path through the indie and acoustic scenes and is leading a new generation of UK singer songwriters; Raghu Dixit, hailed as one of India’s biggest cultural & musical exports, he will be bringing his own special brand of infectious beats and melodies which joyfully transcend age, genre and even language; and of course the Barnsley nightingale herself, Kate Rusby will be performing a special set of material from her latest album LIFE IN A PAPER BOAT, as well as a few select old favourite songs to mark out her glittering 25 year career as a UK folk pioneer.
Kate Rusby and her family-run record company established the event back in 2014. After touring for over twenty years with his sister, Joe Rusby cajoled the whole family tribe - as well as some incredible friends - into holding the festival. Joe explains, "The idea had been boiling inside me for a few years and the more I thought about it and talked it through with friends and family the more they got fed up and told me to just get on with it! It’s amazing to bring the music and musicians we love to Barnsley and to find such a great audience who come to support it each year".
Many more acts are due to be announced throughout spring and much more information on past festivals and how to attend this year's Underneath the Stars Festival can be found on the website.
