The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane (Parlophone R5570 - 1967)

Despite Strawberry Fields Forever being released as a double A sided single, including not just the one but two brilliantly defining songs of the time, the 45 was unable to shift the housewives' favourite  Elgelbert Humperdinck off the top spot with the over sentimental Release Me back in the Summer of 1967. Marking the Beatles' psychedelic period, the two songs related very much to Liverpool landmarks and childhood memories, each song almost defining John Lennon and Paul McCartney's subtle differences as songwriters.
