Aretha Franklin - Spanish Harlem (Atlantic 2091-138 -1971)

In 1971, the British charts was littered with a melting pot of styles and genres, not least a liberal sprinkling of Soul, R&B and Gospel. Ben E. King had a hit with Spanish Harlem in 1960, and just over a decade later, the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin re-visited the song and gave us the version we remember. The song was written by Jerry Leiber and Phil Spector and featured none other than Dr. John on keyboards. The single became one of those records that instantly takes you back to those times.
