Released in 1973, Nutbush City Limits was the last hit single produced by Ike and Tina Turner as a couple before their well-documented split shortly after the singles' release. The song celebrates the city limits of Tina's hometown of Nutbush in Tennessee, despite the town not actually having any city limits to speak of, it being just a small rural town. I first heard the single on daytime radio around the time of its release and was immediately struck by the funky guitar sound, together with Tina's powerful rock vocal. Rumours went around at the time that Marc Bolan provided those guitar licks but this was later challenged, James 'Bino' Lewis later being cited as the guitarist.
