Al Stewart - First Album (Bed-Sitter Images) (CBS 64023)

When Al Stewart's debut LP BEDSITTER IMAGES was first released in 1967, we saw the emergence of a promising singer-songwriter with a folk club background telling stories about ordinary lives in ordinary towns. At times sounding similar to contemporaries such as Roy Harper, and with lavish string arrangements, the songs are pretty much of their time but have somehow survived to be just as engaging today. Although the original 1967 pressing is quite rare these days, the 1970 re-issue under the new title FIRST ALBUM (BED-SITTER IMAGES), sees the running order changed slightly with additional songs such as Mike Heron's Lover Man and a song set in Bristol, Clifton in the Rain, replacing some of the original songs.
