Robbie Robertson's self-titled solo LP released in 1987 was one of the last LPs I bought before the record plants all closed, the black vinyl record being replaced by the compact disc. The next few years were dominated by the CD and LPs continued to be sought in second hand record shops until the record industry began producing them once again for a brand new audience. This record, co-produced by Daniel Lanois and Robbie Robertson was recorded at several locations including Los Angeles and New York, but also Dublin and Bath with U2 and Peter Gabriel respectively. Fellow Canadian Daniel Lanois brought his own artistic flair to the recordings, providing rich production throughout, especially on the atmospheric Somewhere Down the Crazy River, which features the additional voice of Sam Llanas.
