S.E. Rogie - Palm Wine Guitar Music (Cooking Vinyl Cook 010)

Although Palm Wine Guitar Music was released in 1988, the songs were recorded between 1960 and 1969 in Freetown, Sierra Leone and Montrovia, Liberia, not only in mono, but 'glorious mono' according to the sleeve notes. Comparing his music to the sweet milky liquid collected from the tops of palm trees in his West African homeland, Rogie was at the time following others who had developed the infectious style. My Lovely Elizabeth was recorded in 1962 and tells the story of Rogie's first love, a girlfriend who subsequently left him for his best friend, which became an enormous hit in 1965.
