Rod Stewart -  An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down (Vertigo VO 4)

An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down was Rod Stewart's first solo album, released in the summer of 1969 after some success with the Jeff Beck Group and also having already established himself on the British R&B scene. The album revealed Stewart as something of a competent rocker, although fusing folk and country blues elements into the mix. The album may start with a Stones cover, but before we get to the end, Stewart had also investigated Ewan Maccoll's Dirty Old Town and Mike D'Abo's Handbags and Gladrags, bringing to the album an eclectic feel, which would be investigated further on subsequent albums Gasoline Alley, Every Picture Tells a Story and Never a Dull Moment, before his career took an unexpected turn of events.
