Easy Epoxy Resin Memory Tray
Are you looking for a new tray to hold keys, books, the remote, or anything else? Why not make a personalized epoxy resin memory tray? You can show off your favorite memories, drawings, and souvenirs and keep them somewhere safe and visible.
There are a few ways to go about this, but we’ll go with the easiest option. For your materials, you’re going to need:
- Epoxy resin
- Memory items (photos, drawings, notes, or anything flat)
- A pre-made tray with raised edges in an appropriate size and color
- A paint brush
This is an incredibly easy little craft that almost anyone can do. It’s also quick to put together but it still makes an impact when you have it on display.
Take out your tray and make sure it’s clean and dry. Start arranging your memory objects on the tray. You can overlap objects or keep them all separate. Take your time when you’re doing this because once they’re in place, they’re not going anywhere. It’s a good idea to glue or otherwise stick the objects to the tray.
Now it’s time to add your epoxy. You can use an epoxy resin coverage calculator to determine how much you’re going to need. Paint a layer of epoxy over the memory objects to seal them in place.
For a thicker look, you can also pour a layer of epoxy over the tray. This will make it look glossier and it will be more protective.
Alternate Method
Alternatively, instead of starting with a pre-made tray, why not make your own? This is best for small trays that will hold keys or jewelry instead of large trays, especially if you’re a beginner.
You’ll need:
- Epoxy resin in your color of choice (though make sure it’s transparent)
- Memory Items
- A rectangular silicone mold
This craft is simple. Pour your epoxy into the mold. Once it begins to set, but it’s still soft, gently push your memory items into it. Be careful and make sure you’re confident about placement before you drop the items in.
If you use thick enough epoxy resin, you can even include larger non-flat objects like charms and shells.
You may want to add another thin layer of epoxy resin on top, but this isn’t always necessary. Allow the resin to finish setting, pop it out of your mold, and you have a cute and tiny little tray for small objects.
Epoxy Resin Magic Jars
This is a fun little craft that you can use in a variety of ways. You can use larger jars as decorations around your home or turn smaller jars into pendants or keychains. The larger the jar, the more epoxy resin and craft items you’ll need to fill it, so keep that in mind when you’re gathering supplies.
You’ll need:
- Epoxy resin
- Jars (small to medium-sized jars work best)
- Objects to float in the jars
- cork and glue (optional)
- Jewelry or keychain supplies
So what should you put in your jars? It’s up to you! Whatever you put in there will be suspended in the jar, so get creative. You could turn a jar into a fish bowl, a fairy jar (with tiny dolls), a floating confetti jar, or anything else that strikes your fancy. You’re only limited by the items you can find.
Start by filling the bottom of the jar with epoxy resin. You need a base layer to start sticking your objects in. You may end up with several layers if you’re making a larger jar so it looks more like your items are floating independently.
Once a layer is semi-set, you’re going to stick one or several of your objects into place. We recommend using tweezers, especially if the mouth of your jar is small.
Add another layer of epoxy resin to cover the object and let it set. Continue doing this until you have filled your jar. If you want to turn it into a pendant or keychain, super-glue a cork into the jar and attach it to a keyring or pendant loop. These make great gifts for holidays. They’re also great additions to a party favor bag.
What will you put in yours?
Custom Epoxy Resin Coasters
Don’t let your drinks leave annoying rings on your furniture! Make your own custom epoxy resin coasters instead. These are so easy and you can make them match your interior decor style perfectly.
You’re going to need:
- Epoxy resin
- Round shallow silicone molds
- Various objects to put in the resin
So what should you put in your coasters? For this method, anything goes. You can fill them with colorful confetti, pom poms, googly eyes, fun stamps, stickers, glitter, or anything else that your heart desires.
Put your decor objects into the molds. Pour the resin over them. Make sure that the resin completely covers every object. You may have to push a few down.
Let the resin completely set and pop out your new coasters!
Alternate Method
There is a fun alternate method of making coasters that’s better if you want to make them from photos or drawings. It’s super quick.
You’ll need:
- Epoxy resin
- Round jar lids
- Photos, drawings, or other flat decorations
- A pair of scissors
This is so easy! Cut each of your photos or drawings into circles that will fit perfectly inside the jar lids. You can trace around the jar lids to get an accurate cut.
Place your cut items into the bottom of the lids and pour a layer of clear epoxy until it reaches the rims. Let it set and you’ll have some cool coasters!
